Women of the ELCA is the women’s organization of the 4.8 million-member Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This network of nearly 500,000 participants in 64 geographical areas (called synods) in the United States and the Caribbean exists for mutual support and bold action on participants’ faith in Jesus Christ. At St. Paul's the Women of the ELCA group is active and thriving and functions with the following purpose statement: As a community of women
we commit ourselves
All adult women of St. Paul's are members of the Women of the ELCA (W-ELCA). They meet monthly as a group with devotions, a business meeting, a program and refreshments. Several special interest groups are also part of the W-ELCA organization including SEW (Stewardship Emphasis Work), Prayer Partners and Klassy Krafters
For more information on the WELCA organization at St. Paul's please contact La Verne Ness at 608-782-1932. |
SEWThese quilters meet the first Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m. and make quilts from donated used and new materials. The finished quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief. SEW also collects soap, and makes school kits, health kits, dress kits and layettes for Lutheran World Relief. Prayer PartnersEach young person at St. Paul's, from birth to high school graduation, is partnered with an adult (man or woman). These adults pray for the young person daily. Klassy KraftersThis group of women meet at 8:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Activities vary but some examples are: making quilts for nursing home residents, crafting items for the annual bazaar, and work on specifically identified needs in the church and community. CirclesThe Elizabeth, Lydia, Martha and Priscilla circles meet monthly for Bible Study from the Lutheran Woman Today magazine. Other circle activities include keeping in contact with homebound members, bringing flowers from Sunday services to hospitalized and homebound members, and serving refreshments after funerals and other special occasions. They also prepare activities for Bethany Riverside, a 123 bed skilled nursing facility. Circle meeting times
